The 10th grade school trip to Bremen

On September 15, the time had finally come: our school trip to Bremen was about to begin. When all 10th grade students and the teachers met on Monday morning at 8 a.m. at the Lessinggymnasium, there was a sense of excitement and joy in the air.

After a bus journey of about two hours, we finally reached our youth and transit hotel in Bremen. However, unfortunately our hotel rooms hadn’t been cleaned by the time we arrived so we were given free time until 1p.m. to have some lunch and to look around the city to get a first impression of Bremen. Additionally, in the afternoon we took part in a guided city tour and were inter alia shown the beautiful dome, the Bremen Town Musicians, the Böttcherstraße and the Schnoor quarter, a quarter with tiny houses and cute shops.

The next morning, we visited the “Botanika”, a botanical garden which is inter alia famous for its great outdoor rhododendron park and an indoor imitation of several Asian countries with focus on their specific vegetation. Unfortunately, the weather was quite bad, so we decided to stay inside. The common highlights were the butterfly house and feeding Japanese koi fishes. For the rest of the rainy day, we had the opportunity to spend time in the city on our own. After dinner, some students and our teachers decided to watch the comedy movie “Das Kanu des Manitu” in the cinema in the opposite of our hotel.

On Wednesday, we went to the “Universum” which is a scientific museum focusing on nature, biology and physics with many hands-on activities such as an earthquake simulator and a lot of self-experiments. In our opinion, the special exhibition about love was also worth seeing. Again, we had the afternoon off and spent time within friends’ groups. In the evening, the entire class as well as the teachers played a variety of card games together which turned out to be quite funny.

On the fourth day of the school trip, it was planned to go to Bremerhaven and visit there the Klimahaus and the museum of emigrants. However, the train was more than half an hour delayed. Therefore, we had to cancel the original plan and instead visited the Overseas Museum directly next to the central train station and spent the afternoon playing games again.

On Friday, we returned to Brunswick and after some traffic jams we finally arrived at 12:45 p.m. in Wenden. Although we had cold and rainy weather the whole week and the location of the hotel next to the Bremen Central Station wasn’t ideal, everyone still enjoyed the time spent with classmates and friends (and of course, without lessons 😉)
